MemberGuard Overview

MemberGuard is a consulting service provided by Southeast Corporate Federal Credit Union specifically designed to support your credit union’s regulatory compliance including GLBA security program requirements. MemberGuard was founded on the belief that the current financial environment demands a credit union-focused, well respected service provider with the best interests of the credit union at heart.

Staffed with expertise from Southeast Corporate, MemberGuard team members are recognized experts in providing governance, risk management and regulatory compliance services to the credit union industry. From FFIEC, NCUA and PCI requirements to the implementation of the best practices defined in COBIT, NIST and ISO, MemberGuard is here to assist.

MemberGuard services are performed by Southeast Corporate staff with extensive financial industry and credit union experience. All hold various internationally recognized certifications including CISSP, CISA, CPA, CISM, CIA, CFSA, NCCO, CFE and ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor. With MemberGuard you’ll find credit union people trained and certified to provide expert advice and to deliver the "right" services and the "right" technology using a proven methodology that serves the needs of credit unions.

MemberGuard Leadership

MemberGuard is led by Barry Kouns, Southeast’s Vice President of Information Security Risk Assessment. He is the principal consultant for MemberGuard services at Southeast Corporate and brings more than 25 years of experience in information security consulting, risk assessment and quality management. In his position, Mr. Kouns is responsible for developing, implementing and managing Southeast’s information security risk assessment program and service delivery for MemberGuard consulting services.

Prior to joining Southeast Corporate, Mr. Kouns formed and operated SQM-Advisors, an information security and IT service management firm. Mr. Kouns is frequently quoted in magazines and news articles on information security and has held positions as Trainer for British Standards Institute (BSI) and as Information Security Adjunct Professor at ITT Technical Institute. He holds a B.S. in Statistics and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering Management. Mr. Kouns has earned the CISSP designation and is an ISO/IEC/27001 Certified Auditor and is ITIL Foundation Certified.
